MISSION STATEMENT
The White House is a studio space initiative that is a reaction to the corporate loft take over that is currently happening in downtown Toronto. Since commercial spaces are now popular for residential living, studio prices have risen and most recent graduates and practicing artists cannot afford a place in which to develop their work.
The White House Studio Project is a solution to this problem. By renting a large residential house and converting bedrooms and common spaces into individual/shared studios, it provides an affordable working environment as well as a community centre for emerging artists within the city. By doing this we claim back the functionality of residential space left empty by loft-condo dwellers.
Since it’s founding in November 2008, The White House Studio Project hopes to motivate artists, create potential for collaboration and provide affordable working space. Through studio shows, art sales, community events and charitable donations we hope to generate revenue to make this studio project self-sustainable.
