Mannila attended Ottawa University where she received her BFA - Visual Arts. Post-graduation she worked with Arboretum, Ravenswing, Herd Magazine, and Island Park Distribution on various design and photography projects, and in 2014 was invited to Spark Box Studio for a creative writing residency. Her work tries to answer questions surrounding the body, landscape, and their intersections. Mannila is especially concerned with the bodies and voices of women as liberties and limitations. As a queer, M├ętis woman this is of personal and critical interest; her artistic research is an exploration into identity, historical representations and interpretations, and the complex systems creating and maintaining marginalization. She works primarily in painting and drawing but wishes to expand further into photography and installation.
